What Alex has to say...

Alnwick Castle is a grand medieval fortress located in Northumberland, in the north of England, and was first built in the late 11th century to defend against Scottish invasions. For over 700 years it has been the seat of the Percy family, one of England’s most powerful noble families, and remains a lived-in home as well as a popular visitor attraction. Today, the castle is known not only for its impressive stone walls and rich history but also for its gardens, museum collections, and appearances in films and television series such as Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.

FAQs

Whats included in your ticket?

Your ticket includes the best that Alnwick Castle has to offer. In addition to getting 12 months free admission during our open season, you also have access to the castle's museums and collections, State Rooms, talks and tours, and activities like Broomstick Training.

There are also a wide range of events at Alnwick Castle that take place throughout the year, so please check our What's On board for a full list. Please note that while activities may be free with admission, some do require a time-slot ticket which can be booked upon your visit.

Please note that our have-a-go Archery sessions are an additional cost.

Is Harry Potter broomstick training included in my ticket?

The Alnwick castle broomstick training takes place right where Hogwarts students learnt to fly all those years ago in the first Harry Potter movie.

The broomstick training is free, however, you must obtain a free time-slot ticket upon arrival. Access to the outdoor classroom is only permitted with a valid ticket.

Broomstick Training tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited spots per lesson. To secure your place, we advise collecting your tickets promptly upon arrival to minimise the risk of missing out.

We also offer private sessions for groups, please contact groups@alnwickcastle.com for more details.

Do tickets to the castle also include access to Alnwick Garden?

The Alnwick Garden is a separate visitor attraction to Alnwick Castle, with its own events and visiting arrangements.

You are not able to access The Alnwick Garden with a ticket purchased to visit Alnwick Castle.

When is Alnwick Castle open to the public?

Alnwick Castle is not open all year round. Our open season falls between the end of March and October; outside of this, we are closed for the winter season.

Please check our opening dates and times for more information.
