What Alex has to say...

Set in the ancient woodlands in North Essex, near Saffron Walden, Audley End Enchanted Railway offers a magical day out for families. Visitors can enjoy a full calendar of activities includes Woodland Adventure Days, Train & Play days as well as our ever-popular Special Events.

Created by Lord Braybrooke, who had a lifelong passion for steam trains, the railway was officially opened to the public in 1964 with the help of racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.

Now run by Lord Braybrooke’s daughter Amanda Murray, the attraction is one of the most popular family days out in Essex.

There have been many changes over the last 60 years, from initially offering picnics under the trees and spotting teddy bears in the woods from the train, to today’s jam-packed calendar of seasonal events, complete with resident fairies and elves - to entertain children of all ages.

Their Woodland Adventure Days take place throughout the year, offering a relaxed environment for little ones to enjoy.

They are our off-peak, great-value days, where you can make use of their adventure playground, explore the fairy walk and of course ride on one of their trains!

A perfect day out for parents and grandparents to take the little ones somewhere for a few hours during the week, while the bigger ones are at school.

Also a great location to gather as a group, or with your homeschool network, with plenty of parking and space to roam around.

A relaxing weekend day out for the family, allowing you all to slow down and enjoy the great outdoors!
