Black Country Living Museum isn’t just “a few old buildings.” It’s a full-on step back in time. You walk in and suddenly you’re in old-school Britain - cobbled streets, vintage trams, historic shops, staff in character.
It’s immersive without trying too hard.
You can go into old houses, schools, sweet shops, workshops - and it doesn’t feel staged in a tacky way. It feels authentic. The actors (or historical interpreters if we’re being official) are brilliant. They stay in character and actually make it engaging rather than just informational.
The fish and chips cooked the old-fashioned way? Worth mentioning. Proper nostalgia hit.
It’s big. Bigger than you expect. This isn’t a “quick wander round.” You’ll walk a lot, and there’s loads to see.
It’s more educational than adrenaline-fuelled, so older kids get more out of it than toddlers. But even younger ones enjoy the trams and sweet shop stops.
It’s not cheap, but you can easily fill most of the day here and feel like you’ve had value.
This one’s a proper experience.
