What Alex has to say...

Punting in Cambridge is basically the city showing off. You sit back in a long wooden boat while someone at the back gently pushes you along the River Cam with a giant pole - and suddenly you’re gliding past centuries-old colleges, grand bridges, weeping willows and postcard views that look too perfect to be real.

It’s slow, peaceful and a bit dreamy. The kind of experience where you don’t really do anything - you just float, look around, and soak up the ridiculously pretty scenery. When the weather’s good, it feels like you’ve dropped into a movie set. Even when it’s cloudy, there’s still something magical about it.

Whether you’re there for the history, the vibes, or an excuse to sit down for 45 minutes, it’s one of those simple activities that somehow sticks with you.

FAQs

Is punting relaxing or a bit nerve-wracking?

Mostly relaxing - gentle pace, calm water, gorgeous views. The only chaos comes from overconfident beginners steering themselves.

Is it worth doing a guided punt?

Yes - you get to sit back and enjoy the scenery while someone else does all the balancing and storytelling.

Do you get good views?

Some of the best in Cambridge. You float right alongside college buildings and under iconic bridges that you can’t access from normal walkways.

Is it good for couples?

Very. It’s one of the most effortlessly romantic things you can do in the city - especially near sunset.

Is it good for families?

Kids love it. It’s gentle, safe, and they get a kick out of ducks, low bridges and the whole floating-on-a-boat novelty.
