What Alex has to say...

Howletts isn’t your flashy, theme-park-style zoo. It feels more raw. More open. Less polished… but in a proper wildlife way, not a run-down way.

The standout here? The animals.

You get genuinely close views of gorillas, monkeys, big cats, elephants, and there are loads of them. It doesn’t feel like you’re walking for ages to see one animal hiding behind a tree. There’s variety, and there’s plenty to see.

It’s quite a big site, so be prepared to walk. Not “quick lap and you’re done” walking - proper steps on the fitness tracker. But that adds to it. It feels spacious and less cramped than some wildlife parks.

What I also liked is the conservation angle. You get the sense it’s about protecting animals, not just entertaining visitors. That gives it a bit more depth.

Is it the most modern zoo experience in the UK? No.
Is it a solid, full day out where the kids see incredible animals up close? Absolutely.

This one’s a thumbs up.
